After the Inca trail we spent a day in Cuzco recovering then headed into the Amazon via a 45min flight from Cuzco, a 1hr bus ride, and then finally a 45min boat ride to our lodge on the edge of the Tambopata National Reserve. We stayed in a room with no electricity (just kerosene lamps!) and with only 3 walls - one side of our room was completely open and looked right out into the forest!
We spent an awesome couple of days here filled with a number of activities - watching the sun set over the amazon from high up in a canopy tower, cruising on a nearby lake at dawn looking for wildlife, fishing for piranhas, waiting patiently (but unsuccessfully!) to see macaus at the clay lick, and taking a night walk through the jungle. During this time we were lucky enough to see some amazing wildlife - monkeys, giant river otters, various types of parrots and other birds, a caiman hiding on the riverbank, a snake, and lots of amazing insects.
Although our time here was brief, this was an awesome experience!
